College of Adult and Professional Studies

Thank you for your interest in the ACCEL program at Anderson University.  We are glad to be a part of an institution that has provided quality education since 1911.  Our goal is to assist all of our students in attaining their educational goals.

ACCEL is an acronym for Adults’ College Choice for Exceptional Learning.  This name has several definite implications.  First, it is designed for adults.  Our students have a variety of life and work experiences and find that they learn from other students, as well as other students learning from them.  The concept of choice denotes that students have chosen to attend classes.  No one made them do it.  Therefore, our students are serious about obtaining a higher level of education.  Their desire to succeed is strong.  Moreover, the significant increase of enrollment in the ACCEL program since its inception in 1999 is a clear indicator that the ACCEL program is the “program of choice” among adults in Upstate South Carolina.  The learning is exceptional because of high quality faculty.  Most of the classes are taught by full-time faculty who also teach in the traditional day program.  The adjunct, or part-time, are carefully selected because of their expertise.  Therefore, regardless of whether a class is taught by a full-time faculty member or adjunct, students benefit from classes taught by faculty members who have a strong academic preparation and who have a clear understanding of practical applications in the workplace.

ACCEL has another connotation.  The classes are accelerated.  We are committed to providing the same learning experiences in eights weeks to ACCEL students that we do to day students in a traditional semester of about sixteen weeks.  This, in turn, requires a commitment on the part of our students to complete all assignments in a timely manner and to be prepared for each class.  The fast-paced nature of the classes, however, benefits our students in the long run.  Students who take two courses per term may earn 30 semester hours in a calendar year.

Again, thank you for your interest in the ACCEL program.  If we can assist you in any way, or if you are interested in learning more about our program, please contact our office at 864-231-2020, 800-542-3594, or ACCEL@andersonuniversity.edu.
